WASH Officer At Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI)


 Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a woman- led organization born out of passion for the wellbeing of Women and Children in Nigeria. It has a special interest in mitigating the suffering of the vulnerable persons (mostly Women & Children) in times of crisis. Currently the organization has focused its attention on the Northeast of Nigeria with special emphasis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states (the BAY states) due to the decade old crises. COWACDI intervenes through community-based approach in addressing Gender-Based Violence prevention and response programmes, child protection, peace-building programmes and empowerment of youth and women. Since its establishment in 2005, humanitarian and developmental interventions have been implementing in Protection, Peace Building, Housing Land & Property (HLP), Non-food Items (NFI), Livelihood. COWACDI operates with full respect for humanitarian law and works with concrete policies and principles of international standard such as humanity, do no harm, impartiality, neutrality and independence and accountability to affected population and Zero Tolerance to Fraud and related activities.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Role Purpose:

The WASH Officer will be responsible for the supervision of all WASH-related constructions and rehabilitation. He will provide technical support to the team, and he will be responsible for supervising vendors to ensure all rehabilitation works are done according to the agreed WASH standard under the supervision of Head of Program.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The WASH Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan together with Assistant officers and carry out Hygiene Promotion activities within the community to reduce WASH-related risks
  • Supervise the Work of Assistant officers in collecting and recording data on hygiene promotion activities and sharing them with the line manager
  • Conduct Training and refreshers for WASH Assistant Officers and hygiene promoters on hygiene and sanitation best practices.
  • Participate in WASH coordination meetings and other related field meetings.
  • Provide Technical support and on-the-job coaching for WASH Assistant Officers and hygiene promoters.
  • Liaise with the MEAL team to conduct needs assessments, baseline surveys and other assessments
  • Be the link between the community leaders and the organization, identifying key hygiene challenges to be addressed.
  • Support the WASH Assistant Officer and hygiene promoters in community-based solid waste management initiatives.
  • Ensure mobilization and sensitization of Project participants and community stakeholders in carrying out communal activities.
  • Ensure timely completion of project activities according to the weekly and monthly work plan.
  • Support Hygiene and MHM Kits distribution and sensitize beneficiaries on the proper use of the hygiene items
  • Write weekly/monthly reports and share them with the line manager
  • Develop a Work plan and share it with the WASH Assistant Officer and hygiene promoters to work accordingly.
  • Develop WASH proposals for implementation
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor

QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelors/HND in Statistics, Economics, or any related field from a certified tertiary institution with at least 3 (three) years of proven experience in Monitoring and Evaluation which includes database development and management, remote monitoring, assessments, and situation analysis in emergency settings.
  • Proven experience working in an office environment.
  • Listening skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the Nigerian Humanitarian and development context
  • Excellent reporting skills
  • Excellent communication, diplomatic, and writing skills
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications 
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills (at ease with figures and data).

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • The ability to multitask.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills in English and Native language of the area will be an added advantage.
